Alternative Donations

For youth making the transition off the streets and into permanent housing, the experience is exciting and often daunting at the same time. Limited financial means often plays a role in a youth’s ability to afford everyday household items we might take for granted. You can assist in making this transition easier through providing some basic necessities for a new home. THE DOORWAY accepts donations of home essentials and other items that help make the transition into housing and the work force more comfortable.

Sundries needed by participants getting ready to move into permanent housing include:

alarm clocks
bath towels
bedding (sheets, blankets, pillows, pillowcases)
cleaning supplies (laundry soap, dish soap, disinfectant, toilet bowl cleaner)
clothing (t-shirts, socks, work gloves, good used jeans)
cooking supplies (good used pots / pans, utensils)
dish towels and cloths
dishes, glasses, cups, cutlery
grocery certificates
grocery items (canned goods, staples)
kitchen supplies (garbage bags, paper towels)
personal care items (soap, shampoo / conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, facial tissue, toilet paper)
steel-toed boots (most common sizes 10, 11, 12)
transit tickets / monthly passes (for going to work)
used books
used computers + accessories
